Updating names to include macrons
Updating names in the register to include macrons
In 2019 we made changes to our register system so that it's possible to record macrons in names. If your society was incorporated before then you can update details on the register to include macrons in:
- The society's name
- Officer details — An officer's name or the street name for their address
- Society addresses — The street names for the registered office address and address for communication
Using macrons in your society's name
If you're changing your society's name you can include macrons in the new name for your society.
If the registered name of your society should have always included macrons, you can request that we change your name on the register and issue a new certificate of incorporation. You don't need to change your rules to add macrons. To send us your request, an officer of the society or authorised person needs to complete this application form and send it to us.
Using macrons in officer details
When you are updating the register to record a change in your society's officers, you can include macrons in their names. You can also use macrons in their address if the street name is identified with macrons within NZ Post’s address finder service .
Society addresses with street names that use macrons
When you are updating your society's registered office address or the address for communication, you can use macrons in the street name. But only if the street name is identified with macrons within NZ Post’s address finder service .
