Is reregistration right for you?

Before reregistering, it is important to decide if this is right for your society. Find out more about reregistration on our website.

Yes

Apply to reregister your society

Step 1: Prepare material to make decisions

Draft a compliant constitution

Your society must draft a constitution that complies with the new Act, including:

  • the composition, roles, functions, powers, and procedures of the society’s committee
  • dispute resolution procedures
  • nominating a not-for-profit entity or class/ description of not-for-profit entities to distribute surplus assets to on winding up.

We have developed a Constitution Builder tool to help you draft a compliant constitution. You can use this tool on our website.

Wind up your society

If a society decides not to reregister it may:

  • appoint a liquidator, or
  • apply to be dissolved.

In either case, you should check and follow your rules.

Not taking action to liquidate or dissolve your society may remove your ability to make decisions on its behalf (e.g., what happens to its assets).
